Kilyos is located at the northern side of Istanbul. The area is beside the black sea where one can feel the wilderness of the wind and waves. The topography has a sloppy character. There is an old marine building in the area that has been built by the English army while they were occupying Istanbul. We were asked to convert the area into a wellness hotel. 

Our design approach relies on removing the additions around the historical building and digging that required spaces around it under the ground by benefitting the slope of the land. By doing this, we aimed to create the visibility of the old building with its all contours. 

We proposed a new accommodation unit beside the main building with a stone and concrete basement floor and dark brown steel and wood upper floor with a light structure. Since the weather condition is very rarely fair at the area, we proposed a closed circulation connecting all units to each other while housing a minimal reception unit.
